This Pakistani Journalist’s Attempt To “Joke” About Zainab’s Rape Has Backfired And The Internet is Furious
Only recently, Newsweek Pakistan’s editor Fasih Ahmed has come under fire. Fasih Ahmed for his disrespectful remarks with regard to the rape and murder of Zainab, that has started a constructive discussion on sexual abuse, in the country.
This is what he said

Upon being asked what he means by his tweet this is what he said
The outrage won’t last because people are assholes. Child molestation was ok before MeToo and it will be ok again. We’ll pretend it doesn’t happen. I don’t think I was being subtle about it

For further clarification of his tweet he added
It was never ok because it was (and will) always lead to denialism. It’ll be ‘Zainab who?’ in a few weeks. Guaranteed

You know uncles, servants, teachers, cousins, random shopkeepers hurt boys and girls. Did you report them? Did you have the balls to step out of your denial? This is the cause du jour. Default mode denial is just around the corner. Zainab is not a watershed moment

And here’s what the internet has to say about it
This shitty ‘great art’ comment can only be made not just by a morally bankrupt individual, but also one who has only read a Cliff Notes summary of Lolita. #FasihAhmed

Someone should maintain a list of those who are defending Fasih Ahmed, so that everyone can see how incestuous these elite circles are and how they all line up to defend each other no matter what. The ~ art and cultural scene ~ in this country is inherently corrupt.

It's been more than 5 hours since Fasih Ahmed has been tweeting garbage and attacking everyone who disagrees with him. I doubt his account has been hacked. Let's stop making excuses and justifying his behavior.

Newsweek has since tweeted saying that it is reconsidering its relationship with Newsweek Pakistan
We hope swift action will be taken against Fashi Ahmed for uttering such disgusting remarks and using lewd dark humor on as serious a topic as child sexual abuse.
