Only recently, it has been announced that Adnan Sarwar, the actor/director of the critically acclaimed film Shah (released in 2015), is all set to start the production of his new feature film, which is slated to release in the winter of year 2017.
For all those readers who do not know, Zenith Irfan is a 21 year old student from Lahore, who has been occupied with breaking stereotypes and is making statements while she aims to travel the world. Her aspirations emerge to fulfill a wish that her late father never could.
The film which is to be independently produced is therefore, based on Zenith Ifran’s real life story as she has broken down boundaries and is the first Pakistani female who has managed to made her solo journey on a motorcycle through the northern regions of Pakistan.
In the words of the producer, Adnan Sarwar, himself:
“This film will be the second installment of the “Heroes Trilogy” that I have planned. Zenith’s story is important because at such a young age, she is doing things that challenge gender stereotypes which are deeply engrained in the fabric of our society. This film will be my little effort towards inspiring a future where, hopefully, the women of our country will be more empowered, truly independent and unshackled from archaic taboos that hold back their progress”.
Adnan is also reported to have said and firmly believes:
“I have always felt that those of us who work in the film or TV industry have a responsibility to tell stories which can influence our society in a positive manner, while providing entertainment to the audience”.
Additionally, the cast of the film is currently being finalized, while the shooting for the biopic will start in this summer, in Lahore, and along the Karakoram Highway.
The rising attention which is being brought to the generally unsung and real heroes of Pakistan much like Zenith Irfan, through the medium of film is a measure which should be highly appreciated. We, too, believe that work on and release of similar films can in fact play a major role in reviving the film industry and cinema houses of Pakistan.
